Faculty Bio

Nicole “Nickie” Damico, PhD, CRNA, FAANA, CHSE is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Nurse Anesthesia. Dr. Damico has held a faculty position at VCU since 2010, initially as the Director of Professional Practice. She has served as the Director of the Master’s program, Vice Chair for Academic Affairs, and most recently as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Health Professions.

Dr. Damico teaches a wide variety of clinical topics and the Patient Safety Seminar course in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program. She is also a practicing anesthetist at Bon Secours/Mercy Health St. Francis Medical Center. Dr. Damico’s research interests include mechanical ventilation in the anesthetized patient, diversity in nurse anesthesia education, and the use of innovative instructional technologies. She is co-founder of the Department’s Anesthesia eNonymous platform, a website devoted to promoting anesthesia patient safety.
