Angela S. Duncan, Ph.D., serves as the assistant dean of student affairs and community engagement in the College of Health Professions at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She also serves as the assistant chair of the Department of Patient Counseling and the faculty liaison for chaplaincy services for the Pauley Heart Center at the VCU Health System. She holds a B.S. from Howard University, a M.Div. from Union Presbyterian Seminary, and a M.S. and Ph.D. from VCU. She is an ordained minister, speaker and workshop facilitator.
Duncan has been a presenter and continuing education facilitator for various schools and departments at VCU, as well as other hospital and health care systems. Her interests include the cultural and spiritual aspects of coping with chronic illness, end of life, heart failure and artificial heart devices, interdisciplinary patient-centered care and self-care for the health professional caregiver. She is also interested in eradicating health disparities and is a strong proponent of diversity and inclusive excellence in health care.
Prior to VCU, Duncan’s experience includes health care information technology, medical and hospital practice management, and the automobile and aerospace industry. She has served on various boards in the health, finance, education, television and service industries.
