Professional interests
Benjamin Darter is the Chair and an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University and a Research Physical Therapist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Central Virginia Veterans Healthcare system (Richmond VA medical center). His primary research and clinical interests are in the areas of rehabilitation following extremity amputation, and optimization of gait performance. His research is funded by the Department of Defense and the Department of Veteran Affairs. Current projects he leads are developing self-report measures of prosthetic attention (cognitive effort associated with using a prosthesis) and assessing the effect of prosthesis technology on prosthetic attention. He teaches the Orthotics and Prosthetics course in the entry level Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
