VCU Winter Break
Blood Banking Beyond Borders
The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences and the Global Education Office at Virginia Commonwealth University are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to study abroad in Barcelona, Spain. This faculty-led Winter break program explores the intersections of blood banking, biomedical science, culture, and history within one of Europe’s most vibrant and innovative cities. Students will engage in unique academic experiences through visits to institutions such as Banc de Sang i Teixits, the Grifols Museum, and CosmoCaixa Science Museum while also experiencing Barcelona’s rich cultural heritage through excursions to La Sagrada Familia, Montserrat Monastery, and Casa Batlló.
Program Dates: Sunday, January 10 to Saturday, January 16, 2027. Note that participants will depart the United States on Jan 9.

VCU Spring Break
Spain: Promoting the Welfare of Older Adults in the Context of Population Aging
Open to all graduate students, this interdisciplinary course will draw on Spain’s National Strategy for Aging and its alignment with key global initiatives to support the well-being of older adults in Córdoba and its surrounding areas.

History of Medical Imaging: Cologne, Germany and Paris, France
The Global Education Office and the College of Health Professions Department of Radiation Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University would like to invite students to study the History of Radiation Sciences through a tour of sites significant to Radiation Science in Germany and France. The program will emphasize early radiation discoveries and the historical figures behind the science. Lectures will be given by museum staff and Professor of Radiation Sciences, Heidy Palacios.

Interprofessional Healthcare in Portugal
Join a dynamic study abroad program in Lisbon and Porto, two of Portugal’s most vibrant cities, where history, culture, and modern healthcare systems intersect. Designed specifically for students across the health professions, this program offers a unique opportunity to examine healthcare delivery through an international lens while engaging in service-learning and interprofessional case-based learning.
