Following graduation, my postdoctoral research focused on the human pathogens Clostridium difficile and Helicobacter pylori. I decided to change careers and enter the medical laboratory when I moved home to southwest Virginia, and worked as a generalist in a small community hospital prior to joining the faculty at VCU to teach at the SWVA Higher Education Center location in Abingdon, VA.
