Student Affinity Groups
An affinity group is a voluntary, interest-based gathering of students who share a common background, lived experience, or area of interest. Affinity groups provide space for connection, support, and shared learning beyond the classroom for CHP students. They are designed to foster belonging, promote community engagement, and contribute to the personal and professional growth of students. All students are encouraged to register for any event that aligns with their identity, schedule, and interest.
Affinity groups directly support the goals of the VCU strategic plan Quest 2028 by enhancing the university culture of care and responsiveness supporting student engagement, success and sense of belonging. These opportunities also directly support the values of VCU’s College of Health Professions by:
- Creating spaces for leadership development through peer connection and advocacy.
- Encouraging community-building within and beyond the College.
- Promoting a culture of belonging and civility in all programs.
An affinity group in support of students who identify as first generation students are able to discuss their own experiences, challenges and issues that they navigate as students entering college for the first time in their families.
