CHP building manager recognized for outstanding service
Brent Sprouse receives VCU’s 2024 Building Manager Award for the MCV Campus
Brent Sprouse, building and operations manager for the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Health Professions, is the recipient of the 2024 Building Manager Award for the MCV Campus.
Given by the VCU Division of Administration, Facilities Management, the award recognizes building managers on the Monroe Park and MCV Campuses who have gone above and beyond their responsibilities to serve building occupants and the VCU community, demonstrate the values of VCU, and address the needs of the building(s) they serve.
"Brent’s exceptional dedication, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence have been instrumental in ensuring our CHP building remains a safe and welcoming environment for everyone” said Amy R. Darragh, Ph.D., dean of the VCU College of Health Professions. “He is consistently working to ensure he meets the needs of every individual, and we are so grateful for all of his hard work. This award is truly a testament to the positive impact he has on the CHP community.”
In his role at the College, Sprouse provides strategic management of daily operations within the building and oversees administrative affairs.
“Brent is amazingly responsive to the needs and safety of our faculty. He has worked tirelessly with us to help us manage supplies, including building, re-building, hanging - and rehanging supports to manage all of our equipment,” said Carole Ivey, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy. “To meet faculty needs and vision, he has custom built support holders for us. While this is in direct support of our program, he is also tending to the needs of individual faculty in hanging things in the office to moving furniture. Finally, while he doesn't have a direct student interaction role, he knows our students, which is important to the culture that we want to have. Brent is amazing for us to have!”
Sprouse joined the College in 2021, but has been part of the VCU community since 2009, when he began as a fire and safety inspector with Safety and Risk Management. In 2017, he transitioned to Residential Life & Housing as a facility coordinator, overseeing aspects of the student living experience, such as safety, cleanliness, and immediate responses to maintenance issues.
“Brent ensures that our facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for all students, faculty, and staff. With all the facility and parking changes, he manages to do everything with a special ‘can-do’ attitude and warm personality that makes everyone feel part of the team,” said Chelsea Gary, director of recruitment and student programs at the College of Health Professions. “I can say without hesitation, that Brent embodies the values of VCU and is a true asset to our community. He is also a valued member of our team at the College, which continues to be a well-oiled machine in part because of his efforts.”
