Calvin Bradley Jr. serves as Director of Education and Assistant Professor in the Patient Counseling Department, as well as faculty in the PhD in Health-Related Sciences program.

Calvin earned his Master of Divinity with a concentration in Chaplaincy and Counseling from Campbell University Divinity School and an MS in Global and International Education with a concentration in Peace Studies from Drexel University. He completed his undergraduate studies at East Carolina University, earning a BS in Rehabilitation Studies, BA in Religious Studies with a minor in African & African American Studies, and a Graduate Certificate in Global Understanding. He completed his Clinical Pastoral Education Residency training at ECU Health (formerly Vidant Health) in Greenville, NC, and later served as the Pediatric Chaplain for the Maynard Children’s Hospital and Women’s Services at ECU Health. In Fall 2022, he joined the Spiritual Care & Patient Counseling Departments at VCU to serve as the Pediatric Chaplain Team Lead for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHOR) at VCU Health.

He is a Board-Certified (BCC) Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), a Healthcare Ethics Certified Consultant (HEC-C) with the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH), and a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) with the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR).  He currently serves as President-Elect for the Pediatric Chaplain’s Network (PCN).  He also serves as the Students & New Professionals Representative for the Religion, Spirituality, and Family Section of NCFR.

Calvin is a Hasting’s Center Sadler Scholar, a significant honor and recognition of early-career BIPOC voices in the field of bioethics and health equity.  In 2018, he was awarded the Drexel University’s ‘40 Under 40’ alumni award for outstanding achievements and service.

Some of his research interests include pediatric and rural health equity and heath disparities, adolescent spiritual care assessment and interventions, and non-verbal communication and conflict in pediatric care settings.
