Faculty Bio
Maiya Picott, originally from Smithfield, Virginia, began her education after receiving the Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship. This scholarship provided her with a full ride to any school in the country. She decided to attend Virginia Tech where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. She then came to Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a second Bachelor of Science as well as a Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS). She is currently a PhD student in the MLS track of the PhD in Health Related Sciences program at the College of Health Professions. Prior to accepting her current position, she worked full-time as a laboratory scientist in the Microbiology Lab at VCU Medical Center. She continues to work in this lab part-time. As the Laboratory Instructor for the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, she is responsible for teaching all laboratory courses for undergraduate and graduate students within the program. She also teaches Introduction to Clinical Laboratory Sciences on the Monroe Park campus.
