Cameron joined the VCU Motor Control Laboratory in January, 2022 following completion of his B.S. in Neuroscience from the University of California, Riverside. During his undergraduate studies, he focused on research investigating the gut-brain axis, working within the UC Riverside School of Medicine under the guidance of Dr. Qi Chen. As a research assistant he was responsible for ensuring smooth operation of the laboratory, and obtained hands-on experience in data collection, northern blotting protocol, and RNA analysis. Within the VCU Motor Control Lab, Cameron is looking to build on his research interests in neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease) and the clinical translation of research from bench to bedside.
Currently, Cameron works as a Laboratory Technician, overseeing a number of ongoing clinical-based research projects. He is heavily involved in ‘Project VIGOR’, a study that employs virtual reality-based gaming as means of aiding those with chronic lower back pain. On any given day Cameron gets to work with a range of movement and behavioral tools in a rehabilitation setting, from motion capture to EEG and everything in between.
