Rich grew up in Richmond, VA and attended Virginia Tech for undergrad.  After graduating, he moved to Raleigh, NC where he eventually attended Campbell University Divinity School and earned his Masters of Divinity.  He is an ordained minister through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and he has been a Board Certified Chaplain since 2017.  Before coming to VCU, Rich spent five years as the chaplain for Noah's Children which is a Pediatric Palliative Care and Hospice program that serves the Richmond area.  He has been married to his lovely wife Anne since 2004 and his two daughters are Ellyson and Embrey.
