Our team
Shruti Sampath serves as the Clinical Coordinator for the Virginia Partnership for Gaming & Health, in the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling. Prior to starting her new role, Sampath served as the communications chair for the Graduate Student Association at VCU and as the student representative for the CHP Executive Student Committee board.
Sampath completed her clinical internship at Richmond Behavioral Health Authority providing outpatient psychotherapy and psychosocial rehabilitation services. Following her passion for research, she has also been engaged in various research projects throughout the course of her degree. Sampath had the opportunity to work alongside Dr. Kanako Iwanaga on a research paper titled ‘Psychometric Validation of Stress Appraisal Measures.’ Furthering her research interests, Shruti has also worked as a research assistant under Dr. Courtney Holmes, focusing research on parents with children with Chronic Medical Complexity (CMC). Sampath has also been fortunate to present her collaborated research work at VCU’s 26th and 27th Annual Graduate Research Symposium and the 2024 VACES Graduate Student Conference.
Sampath was also been selected as a 2024 Michele Dowdy Emerging Leader by the Virginia Counselors Association. She is an elected member of the prestigious Chi Sigma Iota & Phi Kappa Phi honor society at VCU. Through her time in the program, she has continued to develop her leadership capabilities and finds her voice through advocacy. She is also a member of the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), the American Counseling Association, the Virginia Counseling Association, the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA).
Sampath earned a Bachelor of Science from Heriot-Watt University, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and a Master of Science in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University.
