Advancing Inclusive Andragogy in the Health Professions
The College of Health Professions hosted a special presentation and Q & A on topics including anti racist education; the culturally inclusive classroom; and addressing harmful bias and eliminating discrimination in health professions learning environments. The event featured Dr. Andrew P. Daire, dean of the VCU School of Education, Dr. Tomika Ferguson, assistant dean of Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence from VCU School of Education, and Dr. Stephan Davis, assistant dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from the VCU College of Health Professions.

Dean Andrew P. Daire, Ph.D., joined the VCU School of Education in 2016. Combining an academic and clinical background in counseling and psychology with expertise in research, Daire's style of transformative leadership emphasizes personal and professional development, and motivating faculty, staff and students toward excellence, innovation and impact in their work every day. A big supporter of community engagement, Daire believes research and instruction are at their best (and most innovative) when focused on serving the public. |

Dr. Tomika Ferguson, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs & Inclusive Excellence; and Assistant Professor, Educational Leadership, VCU School of Education. Dr. Ferguson’s research centers on the college experiences of women of color student-athletes, in particular she works with and examines the experiences of black female student-athletes through her Black Athlete Sister Circle (BASC) program. Additionally, her work explores issues of affordability and retention for low-income and students of color, and the professional development of K-12 and nonprofit leaders around issues of equity and diversity. |

Dr. Stephan Davis, Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, VCU College of Health Professions; and Executive Director of Inclusive Leadership Education in the College's Department of Health Administration. Dr. Davis is a fellow and national faculty member for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). He is the immediate past chair of the ACHE LGBTQ Healthcare Leaders Community and has served as an ACHE Regent-at-Large, a role created to foster diversity in the governance of ACHE. In addition, he serves as Chair of the Quality and Safety Faculty Forum for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). For his leadership in the interprofessional context, he has been elected as a distinguished scholar and fellow of the National Academies of Practice 2022 class of inductees. |
